Here are two videos of John Douglas Rancho Piano student Janet performing Sonata in B flat major, K551 by D. Scarlatti and Songs Without Words op. 53 #3 by Mendelssohn. Janet played these two pieces at The Temecula Rotary Music Competition in February placing 2nd and winning $250. She moves on to the finals to be held at The University of Redlands on April 1st and will compete against other Rotary competitors who placed 1st or 2nd in their respective Rotary Clubs in other cities throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Top prize at the finals is $1000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place, and $250 for 3rd place. Over the last 20 years Mr. Douglas has had numerous winners at the local club level and four students placing in the finals. Three 2nd place finalists and one 3rd place finalist. Rotary is a service organization who sponsors a music competition once a year and is open to high school musicians. Categories include piano, voice, and instrumentalists.
