If you're looking for an excellent piano instructor and/or piano tuner, you don't need to look any further! John Douglas excels at both. I initially contacted Mr. Douglas to tune... read more our piano but I also had wanted to take lessons again. It had been years since I'd taken private piano lessons and being recently retired, this was on my "bucket list". I didn't realize all I had forgotten over the years and actually never learned correctly (fingering comes to mind!). Since taking lessons again, Mr. Douglas has helped me to rediscover how much I enjoy playing the piano and I can't say thank you enough! Highly recommend for anyone at any age.

Amazing service had my grandmas old piano tuned after 20+ years of no tuning. (In my attempt to learn myself he also gave me some pointers) He spent more time... read more then he should have to make sure it was right and I got the chance to watch him play and it was amazing. He definitely knows what he's doing. He also does piano lessons that I would highly recommend based on his knowledge and watching him play. Great all around experience:)

Mr. Douglas has done absolutely great job! My son is 12 years old, has been winning some competitions and practicing piano for 3 - 6 hrs per day.
He raised... read more 4 thumbs up including his toes after tuning.
Not only we appreciate your professionalism, but also your caring and loving music inspiration. We definitely will call you for tuning piano every 6 month

I have a family heirloom piano that needed some tuning. It had been years since it had been tuned and I didn't know the first thing about what to expect.... read more I reached out to John with an email, and he was very quick to reply. He asked me some questions to get a sense of what condition the piano was in, and quoted me a surprisingly low price range. He said that the price would fall within that range, depending on what all he had to do based on the piano's actual condition. John provided me with multiple days/times he would be available (both of which were timely). He communicated succinctly, was professional, and had great follow up. On the day he arrived to tune the piano, he did a fantastic job, explained his work, and gave me the most reasonable price (the lower of the quoted range, which I didn't expect). He referred me to someone else who could help with some restoration and further work (outside of John's scope). Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend his work. He was forthright, professional, and skilled at his craft.

I had an excellent, but ultimately sad, experience with John Douglas. Due to his honesty and genuine love of the instrument I learned that my 100 year old baby grand... read more was beyond "saving". John could well have led me astray, and I would have been none the wiser, but he stopped- mid tuning- and explained that my instrument was not going to hold the tuning, and in fact required thousands of dollars of refurbishment. He then helped me figure out what to do with the piano, in a very kind manner; he was sensitive to my emotional attachment to the instrument. And he did not charge for the tuning he had attempted! John is a skilled, kind, truly decent guy.... I recommend him highly.

John Douglas has tuned my piano for many years, and I wouldn't think to call a different tuner. He is always ready to meet my schedule when I need him... read more to come, and cares about doing the best possible job to keep my piano tuned for the long-hall. His demeanor is friendly, warm, and professional. I trust him with his advice about technical questions about the works of the piano, and his tuning and ear are spot on, being discriminative because of his own musical expertise. He plays beautifully and I enjoy hearing him play my piano when my piano is perfectly tuned! His prices are generously affordable. Call him today!

In Jan. 2019 I sought out John's help via an email in appraising my Everett studio piano which I was considering selling prior to moving to Utah. He promptly answered... read more my email saying he didn't actually appraise but tunes pianos but that he would try to help me out. I sent pics of my piano to him & we talked back & forth. I decided to have him tune the piano still thinking I might sell it. John made my piano sing beautifully! I could have listened to him play it all day long. Bottom line is I kept the piano & it now resides in Utah. John made it sound so fantastic I was inspired to start playing it more often. I didn't even attempt to sell it. I highly recommend John! He is timely, courteous, friendly, reasonably priced & very knowledgeable. John was an absolute delight to work with. Thanks again, John!!

John Douglas is the teacher you want (or you want for your child) if you really want to learn how to PLAY the piano. Students who are eager to learn,... read more grow and work hard will thrive under this teacher's masterful but patient coaching.
My twin sister and I started taking piano lessons from Mr. Douglas when we were about 7 years old, and didn't stop until we left for college. After meeting other teachers and hearing other friends' experiences and studying music in college, my sister and I still consider Mr. Douglas as the ideal piano teacher: he's honest and straightforward, coaches every student with the same level of attention and dedication, is always quietly and consistently empowering his students to grow, and is tireless in his efforts to allow promising students every outlet to expand their skills and musical reach. Music is his passion and his life! And he has a true teacher's heart--considering the needs of his students first and foremost.
Teaching students how to carefully read music is a huge priority. Because that's when playing the piano gets really fun! When a student's ability finally matches their desire to play. Mr. Douglas is himself a fantastic sight reader, and values the irreplaceable necessity of practice, practice, and more practice.
Mr. Douglas will also help you find a perfect piano to suit your needs, and he's worked for years as a piano tuner as well.
There's so much more I could say, but a few words that come to mind to sum up are experience, fairness, consistency and excellence.
One last thought: Mr. Douglas always says that nothing gives him greater joy than to hear from students he taught decades ago and learn that they still love to sit down and play the piano.
Cheers!

I had the privilege of being taught piano by John Douglas from the age of 8 to about 20. I am now 45 and have my own young children. During... read more my 12 years with John he demonstrated sheer devotion during the tough decade I went through while attempting to persisting with this discipline. Through fair and stormy seasons we had our weekly lesson. Sometime I had practiced, sometimes not, but slowly and surely I progressed. I got over the adolescent "speed bump" of not wanting to practice and found my love of playing classical and contemporary tunes. I even became a piano teacher myself for a few years during college. I still play occasionally, teaching my kids and learning new pieces myself. John taught me the tools so that I can pick this up anytime (although I really wish I lived closer so that my kids could take lessons from him AND I'd have an accountability instructor for my own practice!)
I played piano for my high school choir and had the great experience of playing on stage at the Segerstrom Concert Hall. Although I could've, I didn't major in music, didn't become a performer, nor any profession related to music however the discipline, knowledge, and love of music that I learned from John is priceless. And anyways, doesn't everything relate to music?? Thank you John for this gift.

My daughter was 5 when we decided to look into piano lessons for her. My daughter always showed an interest in music and we had a small keyboard that she... read more used to play, teaching herself by "ear" how to play simple songs. I finally "googled" piano teachers in our local neighborhoods and Mr. Douglas' name came up. It was after reading several reviews that I decided to give him a call to see if he would be willing to work with my daughter. We didn't know how my daughter would respond, being only 5, so the first time we met, it was just to see how she would interact with him...she was very enthusiastic when we left and Mr. Douglas was very professional.
My daughter is now 7 and absolutely loves piano, music and her lesson time with Mr. Douglas! She describes him as "stern, but fun!" LOL! Seriously, she has a great respect and admiration for him. Mr. Douglas is a very gifted, classical player and has been teaching since 1970. If you are serious about your child learning piano, Mr. D is the way to go! Our lesson time has become our favorite evening of the week and we do not for one second regret starting piano, especially because of Mr. D! Told my husband last week, "we can't ever move...unless Mr. D moves too!" LOL I can't speak highly enough about our experience with Mr. Douglas and my daughter's progress has been phenomenal! He really knows how to bring the best out of your child, while teaching the proper technic, theory and performance! HIGHLY Recommended!
